Job Summary
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for managing financial transactions, ensuring accurate accounting records, and supporting the financial operations of the hotel and restaurant business. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an in-depth understanding of hospitality accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Assist in monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) such as food cost percentage, room revenue, and labor costs.
- Conduct monthly variance analysis and provide actionable recommendations to improve financial performance.
Accounting Operations:
- Manage daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and revenue recognition.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation of revenue streams, including room bookings, food and beverage sales, and banquet events.
- Oversee inventory accounting and fixed asset management.
Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure adherence to local tax regulations, hotel accounting standards, and financial policies.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate reporting.
- Support internal and external audit processes, providing documentation and insights as needed.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in preparing and monitoring annual budgets in collaboration with department heads.
- Track expenditures against budget and provide recommendations for cost control.
- Contribute to financial forecasting and long-term planning initiatives.
System and Process Optimization:
- Utilize accounting software and property management systems to streamline processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the finance team to ensure smooth operations and accurate reporting.
- Coordinate with operational departments to align financial processes with business objectives.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in the hospitality industry.
- Strong knowledge of hotel and restaurant accounting practices and systems.
Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting software and hospitality systems (e.g., Opera, Micros).
- Thorough understanding of financial reporting standards and tax regulations.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
