Job Summary
The Assistant Finance Manager will support the financial operations of the hotel and restaurant business, ensuring efficient financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance with industry standards and regulations. The role demands strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of hospitality financial systems, and the ability to manage a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Planning and Budgeting:
Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial forecasts tailored to the hospitality industry.
Monitor financial performance, identifying trends, and providing recommendations to improve profitability.
Support cost control initiatives, including food and beverage costs and labor expenses.
- Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare periodic financial statements and management reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow projections.
Analyze key financial metrics, such as RevPAR, food cost percentage, and operational efficiency ratios.
Assist in preparing variance analysis and performance reviews for management and stakeholders.
- Compliance and Audit:
Ensure adherence to financial policies, hotel regulations, and applicable local tax laws.
Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and ensuring accuracy.
Monitor and update internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
- Accounting Operations:
Oversee accounts receivables, payable, and payroll processes specific to the hotel and restaurant.
Ensure proper recording and reconciliation of revenues, including room bookings, food and beverage sales, and other income streams.
Monitor inventory and assist in cost control for food, beverages, and other supplies.
- Team Leadership and Coordination:
Supervise junior finance staff, including training and performance management.
Coordinate with operational departments such as front office, food and beverage, and procurement to align financial goals.
- Strategic Initiatives:
Collaborate with the Finance Manager to identify opportunities to improve financial performance, including revenue management and cost optimization.
Contribute to the implementation of financial software and systems improvements.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
Work closely with hotel and restaurant managers to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
Liaise with external stakeholders, including suppliers, auditors, and tax authorities.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years in finance or accounting, preferably in the hospitality industry.
Experience in hotel management systems (e.g., Opera, Micros, or similar) is highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of hospitality-specific financial practices and metrics.
Proficiency in financial software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
